Eilean Donan Castle

Day trips easily undertaken by car from Lochcarron include the much photographed Eilean Donan Castle on Loch Duich, once seat of Clan Macrae and now open to the public.

The Isle of Skye

The romantic Isle of Skye and the majestic Cuillin mountain ranges, museums and ancient castles including Dunvegan Castle, hereditary seat of Clan Macleod.

Applecross

Applecross peninsula, travelling over the Bealach Na Ba (Pass of The Cattle) at 626metres (2053 ft.), one of the highest and steepest public roads in the UK and providing breathtaking mountain and sea views, not a road for the novice driver or those of a nervous disposition, however the coastal road to Applecross via the picturesque village of Shieldaig  provides an alternative  route and is recommended as a circular tour.

Gairloch

Gairloch with its small fishing harbour and golden sand beach, often deserted by all but the seabirds., or a few miles on to The National Trust for Scotland's glorious Inverewe Gardens , on the same latitude as Labrador, yet favoured by The North Atlantic Drift or Gulf Stream, exotic and unusual plants from temperate zones around the world can be seen here.
